The Lost Wild team, Great Ape Games, impresses with a unique genre and gaming experience you won’t soon forget. In a market where thousands of new games are released every month, both indie and triple-A, it’s incredibly important to make your project as unique and captivating as possible. The game appears to be developed in Unreal Engine 5, so it will be exciting to see what they have to offer in the graphical department.

The Lost Wild Tries a Risky Genre
Embarking on a dinosaur adventure may seem like a no-brainer for most fans of the beautiful prehistoric creatures. But in reality, few things are more niche-based than this. In the 90s, there was a proliferation of Jurassic Park games for both Nintendo, Sega, and other handheld niche consoles, but since then, few titles have been released and achieved real success.
The games we remember best are Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis, Turok, The Isle, Ark: Survival Evolved, Jurassic World Evolution, and Jurassic World Evolution 2, the latter of which was more of a disappointment than anything else at launch. All of these have had varying degrees of success and are quite different in nature, but they all have something unique to offer.
What we hope the team behind The Lost Wild is working on is precisely success. Not because we are big fans of the genre, but because the game itself seems to be a solid and honest piece of work. This is not an attempt to breeze through the triple-A mill to sell as much as possible, but rather something that the game developers are truly passionate about. The idea of putting prehistoric lizards on steroids into a survival-horror genre is brilliant, and one might wonder why it hasn’t been done in this way and scale before.
Explore a prehistoric wilderness where you’re squarely in the center of the food chain. Keep your head down, stay alert, and evade. If all else fails, run or try to intimidate using non-lethal weaponry, resulting in intense cat and mouse-style gameplay.
-The Lost Wild
In The Lost Wild, you stand right in the middle of the food chain, and it’s up to your skills whether you survive or not. Your task is to solve the mystery surrounding the island and understand how everything came to be as it is. You will explore many different abandoned and dangerous facilities, where dinosaurs lurk around every corner. For each place you visit, you will gain more information about what has happened and what you need to do next to ensure your survival.
Perhaps the most frightening aspect of The Lost Wild is the fact that you don’t have much to defend yourself with. Your weapons are fire, your own courage, and other odds and ends you can use to scare away the dinosaurs. In the game, they are described as curious and adaptive, just like wild animals in nature often are. Your best protection will be to pay attention to how they behave, and if you use your head a little extra, you might just survive the whole experience that Great Ape Games has thrown at you.
The Lost Wild seems to be one of the better dinosaur games getting released on the market, based on what we’ve seen so far, but it’s clear that the road ahead is still long for the game studio. You can already add the game to your wishlist on Steam, as well as through their website, or visit their Discord to become part of the growing community of dinosaur enthusiasts.
The game was previously called Lost World Returns and has been in development since around 2018. The team has steadily grown, and there is a lot of additional information and goodies on their Twitter/X page and/or their YouTube channel.
